For 2012, the V-6-powered Charger now offers an available eight-speed automatic transmission that helps push highway gas mileage higher than it was before. Also available are steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters that include a Sport mode to hold gears longer and shift quicker. Chrysler has also updated its Uconnect Touch multimedia systems, which can now read aloud incoming text messages, process voice commands directed at the navigation system, re-route around heavy traffic and control a connected iPod. A full-color onboard computer is newly standard. Buyers who want their V-6 Charger to stand out from the crowd can opt for the new Blacktop Package, which gives the car a black grille and black 20-inch aluminum wheels. It also includes a performance-tuned suspension. Inside, there are unique sport seats finished in black premium cloth or leather upholstery, the Uconnect Touch 8.4 multimedia system and an Alpine premium stereo. It's offered in Silver Metallic, Tungsten Metallic and, of course, Pitch Black. You can choose among three engines to fit the 2012 Dodge Charger. These three engines that you can choose from are a 292 horsepower 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 that generates 260 lb. ft of torque, a 370 horsepower 5.7 liter hemi V-8 that generates 395 lb. ft. of torque and a 470 horspower 6.4 liter hemi V-8 that generates 470 lb. ft. of torque.
While you might think the 20
12 Dodge Charger's V6 engine wouldn't produce much adrenaline, a few minutes behind the wheel will not only prove you wrong, it will have your heart pounding. When coupled to the new 8-speed automatic transmission, not only is the 2012 Dodge Charger fast, it is also extremely fuel-efficient. The Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 is one of the best V6 engines ever built by Dodge, and its smooth operation and slight growl when pushed hard make it the perfect fit to the Charger's muscle-car image. On SE trims, gear selection is handled by a 5-speed AutoStick transmission, which does a good job of finding and holding the right gears when climbing hills or navigating stop-and-go traffic. Both the 8-speed and 5-speed transmissions feature an auto shift mode. The 2012 Dodge Charger is a big sedan, yet its suspension does an admirable job of handling aggressive driving, with excellent steering response and a decent but somewhat firm ride.
