The
2009 Sebring Convertible is a 2-door, 4-passenger convertible,
available in 3 trims, ranging from the LX to the Limited. There is a
choice of three engines. The new 2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible
proves again to be a great buy and a reliable convertible. The
convertible offers a choice of vinyl or cloth soft tops or a
retractable hard top. A few luxury interior features are added to the
trim levels for 2009, and a power top is no longer standard on the base
model convertible. The Sebring convertible goes head-to-head with the
Pontiac G6, Volkswagen Eos and Toyota Camry Solara convertibles. Both
Sebrings are available in base LX, Touring and Limited trim levels, and
also share engine options. The Sebring convertible is nice for a
leisurely drive on a sunny day and pulls duty as a regular commuter
with a fun side, but it's less sporty than the sedan.
Sebring Convertible Design
The
2009 Chrysler Sebring convertible has two doors and a shortened
coupe-like greenhouse, and is 3.2 inches longer than the sedan overall.
It rides on the same 108.9-inch wheelbase as the sedan and shares the
same tires and wheels. The convertible's front end features hood
strakes, a grille and headlights reminiscent of the Crossfire roadster.
Choosing the convertible over the sedan adds about 400 pounds to the
car's curb weight, and the convertible roof stows beneath a hard
tonneau cover. Standard 16-inch steel wheels are standard, alloy
wheels in 17 and 18 inches are optional, except on the Limited trim,
where 18-inch chromed aluminum wheels are standard.
Cabin Features
The
Sebring convertible has a fairly simple cabin, and it is is virtually
identical to the Sebring sedan. However, the convertible has a narrower
rear seat that allows for seating of just two passengers in back, while
the sedan can take three. The convertible's trunk opens like a normal
trunk with any of the tops up or down and has 13.1 cubic feet of cargo
room. Cargo room shrinks to 6.6 cubic feet with the top down. The dash
includes three backlit instrument portals, a two-tone dashboard and an
analog clock. The front passenger seat has an optional fold-flat
feature to accommodate longer cargo passed through the 60/40-split
folding rear seat. A windscreen is standard on convertible Limited
models; it stands behind the front headrests to help reduce noise and
turbulence commonly associated with convertibles. Opting for the
Convenience Group Package on the base convertible adds a power top.
Chrysler Sebring Power
A
2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is standard in the ba se Sebring. A
2.7-liter V-6, which runs on regular or E85 fuel, is optional in the
base model and standard on the Sebring Touring and Limited. The Sebring
Limited offers an optional 3.5-liter V-6. The 3.5-liter V-6 runs
through a six-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick manual
shifting; other engines have a four-speed automatic. Both V-6 engines
are rated to tow up to 1,000 pounds. The 2.4-liter, 16-valve,
four-cylinder engine which is standard on the Sebring Convertible LX
delivers plenty of power for a base model. There are different
transmissions available for the 2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible's, a
four speed automatic, or the 5-speed manual transaxle standard on the
GTC optional on other models.
Driving in Style
The
Sebring convertible isn't as quiet as the sedan, of course, but it
isn't noisy underway. Among the convertibles, road noise is best
suppressed by the retractable hardtop. AutoStick® is available on the
Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited edition. The AutoStick will allow
you to shift manually through the gears or cruise with the four-speed
automatic setting. The new 2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible offe
rs a fully independent short - long- arm double wishbone suspension.
This stiff suspension cross member enables the use of softer rubber
bushings to isolate noise, vibration and harshness on the Sebring
Convertible.
Safety Features
For
safety, the 2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible comes with a next
generation multistage driver and front passenger air bags inflate with
forces appropriate to the severity of impact. The straight through
double rail concept of under body structures utilized in the new
Chrysler Sebring Convertible travel front to back on each side, forming
a ladder configuration with the cross members. The cross car beam
located under the instrument panel contributes to torsional stiffness.
The new Sebring ABS Plus antilock brake system (standard on Limited and
available on LX, GTC and Lxi) is a sophisticated extension of
conventional ABS. During turns it automatically will balance brake
force at each individual wheel in return helping to keep the car stable
while braking and taking corners. There is now a convenient remote
keyless entry system which includes illuminated entry and controls for
power door locks the trunk and panic alarm.
The Sebring
Convertible is a stylish vehicle that offers open air driving in
comfort. For mileage, the LX achieves 20-mpg in the city and 29-mpg on
the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is
standard. The Limited gets 16-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the
highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.
